The current conditions in the Gaza Strip are the worst in the history of Gaza in terms of high poverty and unemployment rates, which were exacerbated by the spread of the Coronavirus, which increased the suffering in an unprecedented way. This is due to several reasons, the most prominent of which is the difficult conditions imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than 15 years.

The situation has worsened due to the Corona pandemic, as thousands of citizens have lost their jobs and their source of income, and accordingly, the living conditions have worsened, which negatively affected the ability of families to provide for their basic needs of food and drink, and here The month of Ramadan is coming soon , this month families need special requirements. For breakfast and the pre-dawn meal (Sohour), the families can’t get these  due to the current economic situation that the Palestinian families are going through.

The year 2021 closed, and the Gaza economy was left burdened with crises that it has transmitted every year to another for about 16 years, due to the blockade and the suspension of life in most economic sectors.

Economists have confirmed that the year 2021 left behind an exhausted economy in Palestine, compared to 2020, the year 2021 witnessed the worst economic situation in Palestine in general, and in the Gaza Strip in particular, because of the crises that hit the economy because of the Corona pandemic and lack of work opportunities.

This project  will contribute to providing the basic requirements of Ramadan for needy families. It is expected that tens of thousands of families in all governorates of the Gaza Strip will benefit from the project through the implementation of several projects. Ramadan Projects are as the following:

• Breakfasting project.
• Food parcel project
• Zakat and charities project
• Voucher project

Project objectives and outputs

• Contribute to securing the basic necessities for poor and needy families during the month of Ramadan and alleviating their suffering.

Target group and selection criteria:

• Poor and needy families
• Orphan families
• The families of the sick and the elderly
• Those affected by the Corona pandemic

The following is a detailed explanation of the projects that will be implemented by the Palestinian Orphan Home  Association during the month of Ramadan 2022:

First: Food Parcels Project

Through this project, work will be done to distribute a food parcel that includes basic foodstuffs for the poor, the needy, orphans, widows, the elderly, and those affected by the Corona pandemic.

This project is considered one of the seasonal charitable projects that have a great impact on the lives of poor and needy families during the month of Ramadan, and it will have a clear impact in the local community and will mitigate from people suffering

Second / Iftar project (meals)

The association provides meals and distributes them to poor and needy families in their homes. The meal will be rice and chicken with all the necessities, which include dates, yougurt , and juice .

Third / Zakat and charities  project

There is no doubt that zakat al-Fitr has a good effect on the souls of all Muslims, especially the poor, since it comes just before the blessed Eid al-Fitr, when this zakat is obligatory for all Muslims who are fasting and not fasting, and it is paid out from the entire Muslim family.

The month of Ramadan is considered a month of solidarity, in which mercy overwhelms the hearts of the believers. During the holy month, the rich feel the sufferings of the poor to relieve them of their distress to live and achieve the highest meanings of social solidarity.

Fourth: the voucher project

The association intensifies work on charitable and humanitarian projects in this holy month. Distributing purchasing vouchers to poor and needy families whose breadwinner cannot work or cannot find work to  secure the basic needs of his family and children.

Through this project, the family, after receiving the special coupon, they can go to the shop or supermarket to buy the basic needs that they don’t have

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “A Muslim is a brother of (another) Muslim, he neither wrongs him nor does hand him over to one who does him wrong. If anyone fulfills his brother’s needs, Allah will fulfill his needs; if one relieves a Muslim of his troubles, Allah will relieve his troubles on the Day of Resurrection; and if anyone covers up a Muslim (his sins), Allah will cover him up (his sins) on the Resurrection Day”.
